Lama Lodu "Allegedly, he is a sexual predator."

 https://tinfoilushnisha.wordpress.com/2014/06/02/thankfully-lama-lodu-is-kalu-rinpoches-problem/

Thankfully Lama Lodu Is Kalu Rinpoche’s Problem

I know nothing of Lama Lodu but his reputation precedes him.

Allegedly, he is a sexual predator.

Thankfully, he isn’t our problem.

He is Kalu Rinpoche’s problem.

I have no interest in the subject myself but one of Lama Lodu’s creatures has taken it upon himself to champion his cause here.

If anyone wishes to discuss Lama Lodu’s alleged sexual predations you are welcome to do so here.

This post is for the Internet as public record.

This blog’s traffic is such that henceforth Lama Lodu’s alleged sexual predations will come up as a search result for anyone inquiring about the subject.

Actually, KR seems to be keeping him at a distance. Even though KDK was founded by his predecessor, LL wasn’t even the host for KR’s last visit to San Francisco- that responsibility was given to Lama Palden Drolma, who has her own center. I was a founding member of KDK until LL blew me away (for other reasons).

    • According to the Supreme Court in US v Cassidy religious disputes between Tibetan Buddhists on the Internet is protected speech.

This being said, my experience with the dispute that led to the case, a dispute on Twitter between William Cassidy and Alyce Zeoli, a Nyingma matter, left me with an aversion to involving myself with controversies other than those that directly relate to the Karmapa.

Given that one of Lama Lodu’s creatures has taken up his cause here, as a matter of public record, I felt it appropriate to at the very least address the issue here.

In 2014 if a teacher forces himself upon a student we must consider it, if not a sexual assault, at the very least an abuse of power.

In years past such behavior has been discussed as sexual misconduct.

Since Trungpa, if the lama in question makes no attempt to hide his sexual predations, they have not been considered an issue for us.

Today, our thinking on the subject, especially among women, is that such behavior is sexual predation.

As such, what once was commonly accepted, lamas forcing themselves upon students, whenever a person in authority has sex with a subordinate it is an act of violence against the student, must today be discussed as the abuse of power it represents in 2014.

    • Regarding the person that Lama Lodu’s students have to thank for this post, Karma Yeshe Tarchin, he has deleted his Twitter account but you should be able to find it if you are so inclined.

      It has his picture.

He obviously isn’t at your Nyungne retreat.

He took refuge with Khenpo Karthar.

It isn’t much, but if you would like to thank him for this post, where there is a will there is a way.

This being said, every dharma center should have a policy regarding people such as this individual who take to the Internet, and this blog in particular, to discuss matters you don’t want to read about online.

Also LL considers himself principally Karma Kagyu, so it really isn’t Yangsi Kalu’s problem. The previous Karmapa described Lama Lodru as, “a Lama who has highly developed his inner practice.”, according to the KDK site. Is there a cognitive dissonance to address, can one who “has highly developed his inner practice,” behave in this way?

  3. Jane

    Is Lama Lodu a monk?

    • I know nothing of Lama Lodu’s status but hopefully someone here does.

The issue issue is the abuse of power, not sexual misconduct.

It is 2014 and we need to judge such behavior as we would any allegation of sexual abuse.

If a young woman takes refuge with Lama Lodu is he going to abuse his position to have sex with her?

This topic was first brought up in the thread titled KTD Thinks “Shambhala Buddhism Is A Joke” (see side bar on the right for a link) by a poster calling them self ‘Cecilia’ as a question. “how many children has he (Lama Lordo Rinpoche) sired” to be precise. After this the thread seems to have turned into a which hunt feeding on its self for fuel with many emotionally based comments and to be fair a lot of very calm rational ones. Some of which attempted to neutralize the emotionality and irrational nature of these baseless allegations of sexual predation, sexual misconduct, lack of morals etc. brought against VLLR and others

VLLR has one adult child who is in his 30’s who was produced as the result of a love relationship that is no longer intact. As far as i know this love relationship was conducted in the open and not hidden in any way. Since this all happened over 3 decades ago it was before my time with Rinpoche so i can’t say first hand. I simply don’t remember if Rinpoche said they were married or not but i do remember the relationship was an ongoing one. That being said VLLR has referenced this relationship and his son in our conversations which at times included both older and newer students so it seems quite open and nothing he is ashamed of. Like i said in the other thread there are pictures of VLLR’s son in public view at his center.

That adult child being labeled illegitimate here is unfair to this person at best and pure fiction at worst. In this day and age the idea of children being illegitimate is not really acceptable as it tends to victimize the child. Relationships today, and the off spring born from them, don’t all fit into the moral ideal of a bygone era. Bastardizing children is just wrong in 2014 and maybe has been all along.

Labeling anyone a sexual predator because of the presence of off spring without any other evidence is baseless slander. The fact that this love relationship is no longer intact does not mean there is a victim of sexual predation or any other sort. From what I understand the mother of this person you have labeled illegitimate is very capable at both taking care and standing up for, her self. From the sounds of it she is most excellent at the later.

The twitter account link posted here is not the same Karma Yeshe Tarchin posting this or any other comment in this blog. In fairness that should be noted by anyone reading.

There maybe some protection, based on the case law partially sighted above, from disputes about religion. Baseless slander is something different and most likely actionable.

This blog while being public is not any sort of official public record like this blogger seems to suggest. To me it’s nothing more than agenda-ized opinion, toxic emotional ranting, and some confusing Instagram photos that seem rather incongruent but fitting in a strange weird way.

    • If you have something to say, introduce yourself.

You are the same Karma Yeshe Tarchin that reached out to me on Twitter.

      This isn’t my first rodeo.

Save your explanations for Lama Lodu’s students.

The spectacle you made of yourself here speaks for itself.

It generated 604 views so your belated attempt at explaining yourself is too little too late.

For years people have taken issue with Lama Lodu.

I’ve never considered it any of my business.

In 2014 a teacher having sex with a student, a superior with a subordinate, is considered an abuse of power.

This has been the case in corporate America since Anita Hill testified against Clarence Thomas.

And today anyone working person in this country knows this.

When my wife and I lived over on Arthur Avenue by Loyola a tenured professor was our neighbor.

He lost his job simply for the appearance of an improper relationship with a student.

Let there be no mistake in this regard.

Gone forever are the days in which it is okay for a superior to act out sexually with a subordinate.

Nobody here have Lama Lodu’s past a second thought before you made it a matter of public record.

In Europe you can remove search engine results about you but this isn’t the case in America.

Lama Lodu’s have you to thank for the situation you have put him in.

It is only a matter of time before it becomes a search result, the public record.

Yesterday you thought the advantage was yours but you were mistaken.

You are welcome to attempt to walk back what you have done.

If you do so it will only generate more interest in the subject though.

  5. So, while you don’t believe this particular incident may not be authentic, haven’t you heard many similar stories? What’s that about? How are we supposed to take this?

No offense, but are you even a woman that has to worry about being sexually manipulated? Would you want your mother or daughter to just ignore these “rumors?”

    • Karma Yeshe Tarchin

      Dear Wendy,

No i am not a woman. Maybe next time I will be, no doubt i have been many times before.

To be fair some men indeed have been sexually manipulated by both other men and women so this is by no means exclusive to women although i can understand how some women may be at a greater risk of being taken advantage of then men in general.

Yes I have heard other stories and rumors about some apparently terrible things occurring. Its really awful that these things occur. I am all for these situations to be exposed in a very responsible way. In a fact based transparent investigative way that supports the victim(s). That being said its my opinion that investigative experts like the police or other source like a trained reputable private investigator should do this work not some guy with a blog. Anything other than this will probably only victimize the person who was taken advantage of (or worse) further and do no good in stopping the cycle of abuse.

No i do not worry about my female relatives, mother, daughter, or granddaughters, falling victim to the personal power of anyone. All of the members of our family have been brought up to recognize the sings of predatory behavior and deal with them accordingly. Weather my relatives pay attention to rumors or not really isn’t here or there. I think that they tend not too, they are each emotionally balanced and busy enjoying their happy lives.

I hope this helps, best wishes.

you just told me to move along and to leave you be in another thread. Conflicted much?

my motive is not to generate or not generate views for your blog Bill. Just catching up with people responding to my comments. I’ll be along in a few days to check in on you don’t worry about that.

    • Not in the least.

I just tweeted the following along with a link to this thread.

Watch a troll defend Lama Lodu for sleeping with a strident. #buddhism

      This isn’t my first rodeo.

      • Karma Yeshe Tarchin

I see the post on twitter has brought a tsunami of supporting comments for you, nice work Bill.

How about a neutrally phrased anonymous poll question to get an idea how people feel about this thread? It obviously won’t the same standard as a scientifically based research project but fun none the less. You have the tools to do that available to you as a wordpress blogger. What do you say? Just for fun! = ]

        • Of today’s 557 views this post received 45 views.

          This isn’t a message board.

Once archived a post usually gets much less than 45 daily views.

I’ve never seen anyone breathe life into an archived post.

You are beating a dead horse.

The purpose of my tweet was not to discuss it.

          I got wanted.

  8. Karma Yeshe Tarchin

how do you know the mother of his 30 something year old adult child was his student? is this more assumption? is she western? Asian? mixed? If you have a factual source for your stories spell it out. I trust that most individuals can see through innuendo, rumor, and lies for them selves. Especially those who are actually practicing although i am sure it doesn’t take a Buddhist to know fact from fiction. People generally know drama queens when they see or hear them crying foul constantly.

Whats more is how is it wrong for a conceptual relationship to develop between adults no matter what other connections they had previously? Other than in your outwardly incisive mind. You seem to be hung up on sex A LOT. Makes me wonder what hiding in your closet.

Great beings of our lineage have been both Lama and householder and produced offspring, Marpa comes to mind. I am very certain VLLR wouldn’t like to be compared to Marpa but for my own reasons here I will ok?

What is wrong with you people! Love the Buddha and forget about who did what with whom. I have Lama Lodu’s Chen Re Zee sadhana and it is good because it has the Tibetan for me to chant. Also it tells me not to nit-pick about who does what to whom.Celibacy and compassion is best, Choi kye Nyima.

  14. Fkbddhadrm

Lama Lodru is a stupid, clumsy person with respect neither for himself nor for anyone else. He lacks compassion and is devoid of insight. He is a manipulator, a bumbling meddler and an arrogant oaf.
Lama lodru raped an underage dharma-student who had a baby and left him because he cheated on her. Lama Lodru is greedy. He eats like a pig. Lama Lodru is greedy. He craves coke, sex and material.
Lama Lodru cares nothing for his students. He is an empty shell of a low-class nobody.

  15. Fkbddhadrm

Yangsi kalu Rinpoche is not a person you want to know. For this reason the entire community of lamas and students ( with few exceptions) of the previous kalu rinpoche abandoned him. Yangsi kr left his sonada monastery in moral shambles.
Yangsi kr is a glutton, a hedonist and a liar and manipulator. He is an insult to kalu rinpoche.
Don’t waste a second thought on this punk.

  16. Karma dolma

LL raped a woman, who came to the door of the center to hand deliver a letter. He asked if she wanted to come in for a moment . He lead her into the room closest to the door, which then was a bedroom ( now a room called “bookstore”.) In that room he raped her. LL was caught red handed, when he talked 3 foolish women into exposing their breasts… sitting next to each other, for his inspection. LL asked another for a sexual favor, which she said she declined. LL likes drinking and making out with women who he feels are for some reason beholden to him. He can be quite charismatic and uses his vajrayana flair to wield power over women and men. He is feared mostly. Not a gentle or kind man. Be careful. The KDK is no longer a Kalu Rinpoche center. Situ Rinpoche undersigns the center now but it doesn’t seem like he takes the time to look after it. LL is now old and sick. The former “lion” might be loosing his teeth. The KDK is run down. If one wants to check it out, do so at your own risk. Carry a good stick of vigilant mindfulness if you must go there. Some things I know first hand… some things women confided under tears and in pain. I turned away a long time ago.
